Using MATLAB through Google Colab

Can MATLAB commnads be used from Google Colab (cloud-hosted Jupyter)?

For instance, I'd like to invoke Risk Management Toolbox routines such as bin(vbt, Name, Value), tbfi(vbt, Name, Value) and tuff(vbt, Name, Value) within Google Colab.

This attempt didn't work

import matlab.engine
session = matlab.engine.start_matlab()

    No. Python execution in Google Colab happens in a Python environment hosted on Google's servers. I doubt Google purchased Matlab licenses for everyone.

    Some Matlab programs can execute using GNU Octave (https://octave.org/), which is a FLOSS clone of Matlab. Install it into the environment of your Google Colab session by running !apt install octave inside a notebook cell.
